Other glove brands do not provide the same standard of safety and shock absorption as Twins gloves. For partner training, sparring and competition, we recommend both partners use Twins — wearing 16 oz gloves from two different brands may mean two different standards of safety in giving and receiving punches.
Talk to your teacher or coach about what size is right for you and the activities you are engaging in. You may want two different sizes of gloves for different purposes. Common guidance we offer is that for speed training or athletic competition, lighter weight gloves will help (subtract 4 ounces), while for high impact activities or for sparring safety when heavier contact is expected, we recommend 120 lb athletes use 12 ounce gloves, 140 lb athletes use 14 oz, and 160 lb athletes or heavier athletes use 16 oz. And if you tend to punch above your weight class in terms of power, you may want to add 2 ounces to your speed gloves or sparring gloves.
